Dr. McGuire is a Research Health Scientist in the Rehabilitation Research Division of the US Veteran’s Administration in Hine’s, IL. She also holds a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at The University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. McGuire has been involved in research on the health effects of dietary supplements for over 20 years. Her primary area of interest is the effect of diet in preventing and treating the common elements of neuroinflammation found in both the aging brain and in neurodegenerative disease. Most recently she has been investigating the potential of berries to serve as therapeutic agents in Multiple Sclerosis.
Dr. McGuire received her PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Missouri. She then pursued postdoctoral training in Neurochemistry followed by training in Neurodegeneration and Aging at Rush Medical School in Chicago. Dr. McGuire is an active member of the American Society for Nutrition, the Society for Neuroscience and serves as a Council Member of the American Society for Neurochemistry.
