Dr. Fabio Virgili graduated in Biology from the University of Rome with first class honors and completed his Ph.D. on “Cellular and tissue pathology” at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. He is Senior scientist at the Research Centre for Food and Nutrition of the National Council for Agricultural Research and Economics in (CREA-AN).
Dr. Virgili was visiting scientist at the Rowett Research Institute of Aberdeen (UK), at the Department of Pathology of the University of Modena (Italy), at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of California, Berkeley (USA) and at “PHH Institute” at the North Carolina State University (USA).
Dr. Virgili’s research activity deals with the effect of molecules of nutritional interest on transcriptional control of gene expression and on the effect of the presence of specific genetic variants and epigenetic modification in the risk of degenerative diseases having a nutritional component.
Dr. Virgili coordinated several researches granted by the Italian Ministry of Research, the Italian Ministry for Agricultural and Nutritional Policies and the EU. He participates to the Editorial board of several international scientific journals and he is founder and Editor-in-chief of the Journal “BMC-Genes and Nutrition”, and according to his scientific activity, he is included into the “Top Italian Scientists” List.
Dr. Virgili was appointed as Professor of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Roma-Tre, in Rome and, at present, he is appointed for the course of “Nutrigenomics” in the same University and at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He participates to the board of teachers of different Master and Ph.D. courses held by several Italian Universities.
